Brian Myers has been the Director of Bands at Green Hope High School since August of 2007. Myers completed his undergraduate degree in Music Education with a concentration in piano from East Carolina University in May 2004 where he was also a North Carolina Teaching Fellow. He completed his Masters of Music Education degree from Boston University in September 2007. In November 2011, he became a National Board certified teacher in the area of Early Adolescence to Young Adulthood Music.
Myers began his career as the Director of Bands at Roanoke Rapids High School. During his second year at RRHS, he was nominated as a finalist for Teacher of the Year for the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District. Myers was also the Youth Director and pianist at Rosemary United Methodist Church in Roanoke Rapids.
During his time at Green Hope High School, he has led the marching band to several grand championships and finalist appearances at regional and national competitions. He led the marching band to the Gator Bowl in 2009 where they earned the Sweepstakes Award and were chosen to perform a portion of their competition show for the pregame ceremonies of the Gator Bowl. Since 2012 they have been a Bands of America Regional Finalist five times and have been a Bands of America Grand National Semi-Finalist twice.
The Symphonic Band and Concert Band achieve consisent superior ratings at the annual Music Performance Adjudication, and Mr. Myers has also partnered with many professional conductors and musicians in the area to provide students with master classes and other opportunities. Myers and the GH Symphonic Band commissioned a work in 2009 by Philip Sparke in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of Green Hope High School and a piece in 2014 by Martin Ellerby for the school’s 15th anniversary. The Symphonic Band has also been a part of a commissioning consortium who premiered works for wind band by John Mackey and Tyler Grant. In 2014, the Green Hope Symphonic Band performed at the NC Music Educator’s Conference in Winston-Salem.
Myers also pioneered the iBand project with the AP Music Theory classes. The iBand groups have presented at the NCTIES technology conference and the North Carolina Music Educator’s Conference.
Mr. Myers has conducted the Craven and Johnston All-County Bands and the Blue Band at the UNC-Wilmington Honor Band Festival. Mr. Myers is the 2014-15 GHHS Teacher of the Year and the 2015 Central District Bandmasters’ Association Band Director of the Year.
